Now that we’ve stuffed our faces, it’s time to seriously start thinking about what to buy as Christmas presents or maybe you need to make up your own wishlist. Instead of ensuring the masses at the stores, I’ve always been a fan of more creative gifts that don’t involve long lines so I often resort to homemade gifts or things I can find online. I got to try out the September’s Istambul spice box with recipes for lahmacun (baharat lamb flatbread), roasted beet and urfa pepper hummus, and za’atar & pita crusted cauliflower. I made all three recipes as a meal and oh my goodness it was so good! The cauliflower actually reminded me of chicken nuggets, but with Mediterranean flavors. I also added a little mozzarella to my flatbread and accidentally added the entire packet of the ufra pepper to the hummus but didn’t realize it until I looked back at the recipe days later. I actually like it the way it was! Of course now I am sad I used it all because I wish I had more to make it again.

This brought up a question that you may also have: Can you purchase more of the spices? After trying them out I think it would be great to be able to buy more of the ones most liked. I posed this question to co-founder Rebecca, and she said that they are working on making prior spice blends available for sale in the near future and that they get asked that a lot!
