You don’t need to fire up theย grill to make wings at home. Let your slow cooker do the work and then finish them off under the broiler.

HotSummerEats

When it comes to summer cookouts wings are a common party goer. When I lived in Memphis I fell in love with a certain wing flavor called “Honey Gold”. It wasn’t honey BBQ, it was more like a honey mustard but better which I never did figure out how to make myself but I have seen recipes for Carolina Gold BBQ Sauce that I need to test.

Fast forward a couple years and when I received the bottle of Southern Gold sauce from VooDoo Chef for this event I knew I was making wings with it. While I am still not entirely certain how the sauce and wings were seasoned in Memphis, I did my best to recreate what flavors I could from memory. And my taste buds were happy.

SLOW COOKER HONEY GOLD CHICKEN WINGS

Serves 4-5

Ingredients:

1/2 cup garlic vinaigrette (I used T.Lish)

1/2 cup honey

2 Tbspย sriracha

1-2 cups chicken broth, as needed

2 lb. chicken wings and drums

12 oz. mustard based BBQ sauce (I used VooDoo Chef Southern Gold)

Directions:

  1. Whisk the vinaigrette, honey, and sriracha together in a large slow cooker. Nestle the chicken in a single layer and pour chicken broth over top to cover (if needed).
  2. Cover and cook on high for 3.5-4 hours.
  3. Preheat oven to broil, and line a baking sheet with foil.
  4. Remove the chicken wings from the slow cooker and arrange in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet.
  5. Broil the chicken until crispy, about 5 to 10 minutes, flipping as needed to get all sides crispy.
  6. Pour the southern gold sauce into a large bowl. Dump the chicken in and toss to coat. Transfer to a serving platter and serve with a sprinkle of parsley, if desired.

Wings are the perfect picnic food and I will bet they were perfect with the sauce that you created.
