These days, it seems like you can find cookbooks on just about any subject and the one I am reviewing today is no exception. The first time authors, Ben Myhre & Jenna Johnson used Amazon.com’s independent publishing platform CreateSpace to create their cookbook Fifty Shades of Bacon. CreateSpace is an indie publisher platform allowing authors to circumvent traditional publishing routes in order to share their prized recipes. It’s an indie publishing trend!
Fifty Shades of Bacon is a tongue-in-cheek “erotic” cookbook that provides a complete bacon experience spanning every meal of the day, including dessert. It starts off with a “Foreplay” of Appetizers, followed up by an “Afternoon Delight” of Main Courses and “Multiple Orgasms” of Desserts. In case you are a morning person, there is even “Morning Wood” Breakfasts. And finally, no meal is complete without some “Bondage” of miscellaneous condiments.
As a result, I decided to whip up a complete bacon meal from main course to dessert. For the main course, I made Bacon Wrapped Maple Chicken. Like many of the recipes included in this cookbook, it was fairly simple and easy to prepare. The chicken breasts were wrapped in bacon, and then cooked with a maple-mustard sauce poured over the top. It resulted in total yummy-ness.
To finish of this bacon-ride, I made the Bacon Chocolate Cupcakes for 2. The cupcake itself did not have any bacon incorporated into it (although I bet I could’ve substituted the butter for bacon grease), but the chocolate frosting did use some of the bacon grease leftover from making homemade bacon bits to sprinkle on top. I personally have experienced the flavor blast of chocolate and bacon together before and these cupcakes were simply awesome. They also have been man-tested and -approved.
Overall, I do think they could’ve made this book a little smaller since the text doesn’t take up much room on each page and the pictures are not that large. But I think it is a neat little cookbook. And guess what? I get to giveaway a copy of this cookbook along with two others! One lucky reader will win copies of 50 Shades of Bacon, Kill the Recipe (basics of radical beanmaking and plant-based eating), and The Home Distiller’s Workbook (guide to making moonshine, whiskey, vodka, rum, etc.). Just use the Rafflecopter widget below to enter!

[…] peanut butter bacon burger this was bound to happen. It’s not like I haven’t made cupcakes and cookies with bacon before. It is sweet and salty […]
I would publish a cookbook on bread baking!
My cookbook would be a collections typical dinners/desserts from good cooks from different parts of the country. No photo shop pics just plain what to expect pics. I think that is way I heart food blogs because of the honest pics and sharing of success and I learn from the oops! So my friends….cook on!
I’d do a cooking for beginners cookbook.
It would be about cookies or different carrot cake desserts.
I would love to do a cookbook on “All About Cheese” , there are so many different kinds of cheese and they each have their own flavor and texture. I would love to have a guide to the different kinds cheese and the heritage behind each one along with recipes.
LOL, this is kind of hilarious. I would definitely do a cake cookbook, or at least desserts in general. They’re my forte.
I would publish a “church lady” cookbook with all those wonderful recipes that you ate at Sunday dinners at the church!
I would publish a cookbook full of cookies and muffins.
Brownies
My cookbook would be about oats!
How hilarious :) Dudes do love bacon, I’m sure BF would love all recipes in this cookbook.
We have a few bacon lovers in this household…me included! I think I need to get beyond bacon just for breakfast and appetizers! Such yummy ideas!
I love tapas so I would love to publish a cookbook of all my favorite small plate appetizers
If I could create a cookbook it would be about taking a normal recipe and completely reinventing it to a healthier option for people–particularly for anyone trying to get extra healthy and beneficial nutrients in their diet. :)
If I were to publish a cookbook, it would probably be about using classic techniques and basic ingredients to create delicious, varied meals, desserts, and treats.
If I could publish a book it would be on all types of desserts with nothing but chocolate!
It would have to be a book on ‘ Bread’..how to make it and how to bake it!
I am an appetizer girl so I would go with appetizers for all occasions – parties, family dinners, random drop-ins.
easy quick cookies and desserts
I would publish a cookbook on evolving into a great cook. Like when I started out cooking, I had many disasters, but as the years have passed and with a ton of practice, I’ve gotten way better. So I would start out chapters with easy level recipes and then do a little harder recipes and then end the chapters with expert-like recipes :)
thank you for the giveaway :)
Aw man, I would definitely publish something dessert related! It would be so cool to have a cookbook based on my blog someday.
Thanks for reviewing some of the recipes!
Hi Erin! Thanks for trying some of the recipes! I love the layout of your blog and it makes me happy when these recipes are man tested and approved!
You are welcome, and thank you! I gave the second cupcake to my friend’s husband and he defended it from others trying to get a taste. He was NOT sharing!
my BF would LOVE that bacon cookbook (of course, I’d be the one doing the cooking but still)
