Feta Stuffed Pesto Turkey Burgers

by Erin

There’s nothing bland about these pesto turkey burgers. Not only are they seasoned with garlic and pesto, but they are stuffed with feta.

Burgers are fun, don’t you think? It’s like pizza, you can pretty much put whatever you want on/in it. I am actually surprised this is only my second turkey burger recipe on here, because I really enjoy a good turkey burger – despite all the hate they get.

Speaking of, do you have a favorite recipe? Care to share with me?? O:-)

Pesto Turkey Burgers Stuffed with Feta.

Just like the eggplant burger, I didn’t need to put any condiments on these pesto turkey burgers. I actually meant to, but after one bite I completely forgot about anything else. All the necessary flavors were already being delivered by the burger patty itself. The homemade pesto may have been a factor.

I was so happy with how these turned out. Even the feta inside looks pretty! Definitely would love to have these feta stuffed pesto turkey burgers stock-piled in my freezer. I may just need to do that because you can easily freeze the assembled patties.

Yield: 4 servings Prep Time: Cooking Time:
Nutrition facts: 200 calories 20 grams fat

Ingredients

  • 1 lb lean ground turkey
  • 1/2 cup bread crumbs
  • 2 Tbsp basil pesto
  • 1 egg
  • 2 garlic cloves, crushed
  • 1 cup crumbled feta
  • Hamburger buns
  • Lettuce, tomato, and red onion or any of your favorite burger toppings

Directions

  1. In a medium bowl, combine the turkey, bread crumbs, pesto, egg, and garlic, mixing gently with your hands without overworking the mixture.
  2. Shape the mixture into eight thin patties. On four of them place 1/4 cup of feta, leaving space around the edge. Use the remaining four patties to seal the feta inside the burger. Preheat your grill.*
  3. Cook the burgers on a well oiled preheated grill for 4-5 minutes per side or until just cooked through, flipping only once. Serve on a toasted bun with desired toppings.

Notes

*Alternatively, refrigerate until youโ€™re ready for them, or wrap well โ€“ with squares of waxed or parchment paper between each patty โ€“ and freeze for up to 6 months.)

Burgers are what I always crave and turkey burgers are great. I have never thought of straying a way from the typical american or cheddar cheeses, but reading this post and seeing the picture made drool!

I love stuffing turkey burgers with cheese—we’ve done it with feta, blue, and goat…all are yum! :)

Oh goodness I have to try this! I love ground turkey. I used it often instead of ground beef (and sometimes I don’t tell my hubby that its ground turkey). Plus adding in pesto plus feta, oh goodness! This is all my fav’s all combined in one tasty burger! I see what I will be making very soon!!
