These 3 Ingredient Slow Cooker Root Beer Pulled Pork Sandwiches are tender and juicy. Serve with your favorite BBQ sauce and sides.
I love root beer. It is my #1 most favorite drink of all time. Want proof? I’ve been collecting root beer of all different kinds since the 6th grade! Is that impressive or weird?
I originally got the idea to collect root beer from my Dad, who collects sand wherever he goes. It’s really amazing how different sand can look from different places of the world. The same goes for root beer.
People often ask me whether there is any difference between the different types of root beer I have tried. First let me ask you this – do you prefer Pepsi or Coke? If you think there is a difference between those two colas then trust me, the range of flavor for root beer is even greater.
I have had some root beers that are amazing and wish I had a secret life-time stash of, whereas others (although few) I would object to pouring them straight down the drain.
Despite my ridiculous love for root beer, I tend to prefer it in it’s natural state – I don’t like root beer floats or candy. But when I saw a recipe for this slow cooker BBQ root beer pulled pork, I knew I had to try it. Bonus points because it only requires 3 ingredients (plus the buns).
3 Ingredient Slow Cooker Root Beer Pulled Pork
- Pork
- Root Beer
- BBQ Sauce
Although I could not really taste the root beer in the named root beer pulled pork, I know it had something to do with how moist, juicy and flavorful the pork turned out – and it was so easy!
What does root beer do to meat?
If you can’t taste it then what’s the point of using root beer? Fun fact: the acidity levels in root beer will tenderize most red meat and, in this case, pork.
I bet you could also make instant pot pulled pork with root beer as well. Whichever method you prefer, this root beer pulled pork is great served with roasted potato salad , apple slaw, or better yet root beer baked beans. Why not complete the meal with a slice of chocolate root beer bundt cake?

I love root beer, too! I’ve never cooked with it. Those sandwiches look so delicious and full of flavor. I bet the sweetness and flavor of the root beer makes the pork taste amazing.

This looks delicious!
I can’t tell from your photo if you have a bottle of root beer from Colonial Williamsburg, Virgina. It’s made right there, is very tasty, and even comes in a neat bottle.
What is the name of it? If it is just “Colonial Williamsburg” then I definitely do not have it.
The one I have is called “Chowning’s Root Beer” from [Josiah] Chowning’s Tavern. Looking closer, I think you already have it on your shelf :)
I’ll have to check when I am home.
I love me a pulled pork sandwich and bookmarked this right away. So simple and yet always soooo yummy!
I’d say impressive!! While I”m not really a root beer fan, I’m thinking I might give this a shot with real beer! Excellent recipe!
I think this recipe would be great with Cherry Coke or Dr. Pepper too!
Root beer in pulled pork? That sounds amazing!
It sounds amazing because it is!
Love your root beer bottle collection! Your pulled pork looks delicious.
Did you know that root beer is not, I repeat NOT sold in Australia. How wacky is that??
I can order it and I think I’ll have to try my one remaining can on this one. I love bbq !!
That’s so weird! Especially since I have a root beer in my collection that says it is made in Australia.
I’m not a root beer fan, but I am beyond impressed by your bottle collection. So cool!!! And even though I don’t like root beer, I know I’d enjoy this pulled pork.
Thank you! I do enjoy my collection. It’s my favorite thing that I own. And you probably would love the pulled pork, because you really cannot tell it was cooked in it.
I love the root beer collection. And YES…there is a big difference between Coke and Pepsi (I’m a Coke drinker myself).
I love the root beer bottle collection. And I think it’s great that you started it when you were so young.
WOW, that picture is awesome! Your collection is so epic it’s making me want to take something up so I can feel similarly accomplished as a connoisseur of something. :)
Haha thank you! I am very proud of my growing collection. The problem I have now is figuring out where to put more shelves…
Oh that looks good….great use for root beer. My husband is a root beer fanatic…I’m pretty sure he would drool over your collection. ;)
Thank you! Most people think my collection is beer and then they seem less impressed when I say it’s root beer.
Another Erin – Hi!!
